Darash - Mediterranean Folk Music

Darash was formed in 2014 when five musicians with diverse musical influences met in the city of Granada. Pablo González Cobo is the main composer of the songs and plays bouzouki, acoustic bass, and lavta. Jorge Parada Castellano plays guitar, mandolin, and mandola. Juan Cabello Donayre plays violin, hurdy-gurdy, and Iranian santur. Karima Toré plays transverse flute, and percussionist Juana Larreta plays darbuka, tambourine, riq, and flamenco cajón. Thanks to each member's different musical influences (rock, flamenco, world music, etc.), Darash's music is a unique blend of traditional and contemporary sounds. Karima Toré plays the transverse flute and percussionist Juana Larreta plays the darbuka, tambourine, riq, and flamenco cajón. Thanks to each member's different musical influences (rock, Celtic, flamenco, Sephardic, Arabic, Turkish, Andalusian, etc.), they embark on an interesting journey between fusion and experimentation across these worlds.

The term Darash, of Hebrew etymology, means “the search,” a concept that reaffirms the idea of uniting contemporary music with ancient music based on the study and interpretation of Mediterranean music. After five years touring stages and festivals, Darash captured a new concept of folk/instrumental music on their first self-titled album, with a style that many call Folk Nazarí.
